An Environment for Empirical Data Interpretation
نویسنده
چکیده
While several visualization systems have recently been developed, many application programmers still prefer writing their own code. Why? Because these systems are ill-suited for applications based on empirical data, such as biomedical imaging, robotics, seismic data analysis, and wood classification. Current visualization systems focus on displaying data. But emprical data analysis also needs highly customizable data exploration and interpretation tools which can be adapted to the requirements of different applications. This paper presents EDI, an environment for Empirical Data Interpretation. EDI provides the following capabilities essential to data exploration: (1) Users can probe the data, defining regions of interest with arbitrary shapes. (2) The selected data can be transformed and displayed in many different ways, e.g., several data sets can be displayed together – merged, mixed or overlaid – or they can be shown side-by-side with linked cursors. (3) Linked cursors can be established between several windows showing data sets with arbitrary relationships, e.g., between differently sized images or between images and scatter plots. (4) Data can be displayed on any screen across a computer network, allowing for tele-collaboration arrangements with linked cursors around the world. (5) EDI is user-extensible, allowing programmers to change any component of EDI while keeping the remaining functionality. We demonstrate how EDI can be used in several applications.

An Algorithm for Modeling and Interpretation of Seismoelectric Data
Generally speaking, seismoelectric modeling is a prospecting method based on seismic and electromagnetic waves, in which waves generated by a seismic source at the boundary of the two environments generate a relative fluid-solid motion formed as a result of antagonism between the elastic properties of the environment with the saturated fluid. This research has as its objective, a study of the e...
متن کاملAN-EUL method for automatic interpretation of potential field data in unexploded ordnances (UXO) detection
We have applied an automatic interpretation method of potential data called AN-EUL in unexploded ordnance (UXO) prospective which is indeed a combination of the analytic signal and the Euler deconvolution approaches. The method can be applied for both magnetic and gravity data as well for gradient surveys based upon the concept of the structural index (SI) of a potential anomaly which is relate...
متن کاملStudying empirical correlation between drilling specific energy and geo-mechanical parameters in an oil field in SW Iran
Multiplicity of the effective factors in drilling reflects the complexity of the interaction between rock mass and drilling bit, which is followed by the dependence of parameters and non-linear relationships between them. Rock mass or, in other words, the formation intended for drilling, as the drilling environment, plays a very essential role in the drilling speed, depreciation of drilling bit...
متن کاملAcoustic Environment in the Bus: an Empirical Study
Traffic snarl-up or traffic jam is a common phenomenon in Puri, one of the imperative pilgrimage sites for Hindus as well as a popular tourist destination in India. Traffic congestion inevitably produces traffic noise, in turn annoying the drivers, leading to road rage. Keeping this in mind, the present article has monitored and assessed different noise descriptors in 7 different types of buses...

متن کاملNIOC’s requirements for data processing and interpretation in challenging geological environment
The time for easy oil discovery and production for National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) is over. This means that the oil is no longer discovered in structurally simple, i.e., almost flat environments like south of Khuzestan province (south west of Iran). This comes along with the fact that Iran’s biggest oil reservoirs are in this area, and they are passing half of their life cycle. These giant ...
